Large Language Models for Weather Forecasting Operations

Motivation:

• Large Language Models (LLMs) are like nothing we have seen before.
• We believe it is critical for the community to come together and think carefully about the best ways to introduce these models in weather forecasting operations (WFOs).
• At CIRA we have been involved in a few projects that consider bringing LLMs into specific weather forecasting operations.
• Largely based on these experiences we started a list of general considerations that we think are important for the introduction of LLMs in WFOs which we you can find here:
