About Me:

I completed a BSc in Forest Management and Biometrics from Colorado State University (1982), an MS (1988) in Natural Resources – Air Environment from CSU, and a PhD (1997) in Natural Resources – Plant and Boundary Layer Environment from the University of Connecticut. A good deal of my time is currently spent on national and international satellite focused training efforts. There are many wonderful satellite products that help us explore, evaluate, and predict the weather of our environment. The questions are: Do the forecasters, managers, and decision makers know about them and how to use them optimally? What are the most effective ways to get the information to them? These are not easy questions to answer and they have different answers depending on whether we look nationally or internationally. I have worked with international communities in Central and South America and the Caribbean since 1996 to promote the use of satellite imagery through the concept of train the trainers http://rammb.cira.colostate.edu/training/rmtc/ . In the past 15 years I have worked on national training activities through the VISIT and SHyMet Training programs http://rammb.cira.colostate.edu/visit/visithome.asp AND http://rammb.cira.colostate.edu/training/shymet/ . As the opportunities present, I have also pursued research related to regional satellite cloud climatologies and research to develop satellite products using multispectral and hyperspectral imagery for the detection of volcanic ash and aerosols, dust, and the detection of fires as well as improved detection of water and ice cloud.
