Ongoing Research into New and Emerging Technologies Aimed at Improving Scientific Research, Results, and Applications

At the Earth System Research Laboratory (ESRL), within the Advanced Technology Outreach (ATO) branch, research is ongoing into new and emerging technologies aimed at improving scientific research, results, and applications. These efforts range from improving data access and visualization through the development of high-performance web services, using machine learning to extract more relevant information from satellite observations, as well as the development of software containers for the ease of application deployment, both internally and externally to cloud service providers, and reducing hurdles for community model development. This presentation will provide an overview of these ongoing activities, the goals, the challenges, and future directions.
