Valerie Were, Ph.D.

Social and Behavioral Science Program Analyst

About Me:

I’m an environmental social scientist whose job is to support the growth and integration of social, behavioral, and economic sciences with physical sciences at the National Weather Service. Before joining CIRA, I was the Social Science Lead the Center for Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing Technologies (CESSRST) where I was responsible for infusing social sciences into the Center’s education, training, and research. Prior to that, I was a contractor in the NOAA Chief Economist’s Office, which coordinates social sciences across the agency.

My Bachelor’s is from Utah State University in Watershed Science. My Master’s in Water Resources Science and Ph.D. in Natural Resources Science and Management are from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.
