About Me:
I am a science writer with a passion for building scientific literacy. My position covers CSU’s Department of Atmospheric Science in addition to CIRA. My stories about CIRA research and the people behind the research share our cutting-edge findings and illuminate the process behind the science. I also contribute content to CIRA’s social media accounts. As a professional communicator, I hold skills in science writing, graphic design, photography, illustration, copy writing, and video editing.
With a B.A. in Biology from Willamette University and a Ph.D. in Ecology from Colorado State University’s Graduate Degree Program in Ecology, I have a deep appreciation for the environmental sciences. Working to describe a newly discovered gall-forming fly in Oregon as an undergraduate researcher introduced me to professional science. For my doctoral research, I studied plant-mediated interactions among gall-forming insects to inform sustainable land management practices related to Russian knapweed. While working through my Ecology degree, I performed outreach and participated in science education research. After graduating, I worked with CSU’s Graduate School on sharing grad student research stories and resources. From there, I joined the CSU Energy Institute to amplify stories about clean energy research and innovation.
In the summer of 2024, I started my position at CIRA and the Department of Atmospheric Science. Beyond sharing stories about our community’s research, I am enthusiastic about working with our DEIJ committee to uphold high standards regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion in our workplace, research, and culture.
