The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) began Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) water vapor observations at sea using research vessels in 2021, expanding to cargo ships and ferries in 2022. Data analyzed on each vessel is transmitted to JMA headquarters in real time every 10 minutes and utilized in operational forecasting and numerical models in the form of Precipitable Water Vapor (PWV). This presentation introduces GNSS water vapor observations from ships, including an overview of research vessels.
