About Me:

Dr. Dittberner, is a Senior Research Associate at CIRA working on GOES-R series algorithms, products, and training. He is an AMS Certified Consulting Meteorologist (CCM), a Fellow of the AMS, and a Fellow of the U.K. Royal Meteorological Society (FRMetS). Recently retired from Harris Corporation, Dr.Dittberner was a senior systems engineer working with algorithms and systems development leading to completion of the GOES-R Series Ground System, now operational in Suitland, MD. During his 12-years with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration he was NOAA’s GOES Program Manager for the development and successful launches of GOES 9 through 12 and planning for GOES 13 through 15.

 

Dr. Dittberner also led an observation technology research and development project to incorporate data from research satellites and products into NOAA operations for future NOAA satellite system architectures. For NASA’s TRMM project, he was contract program manager for the early prototype of the TRMM science Data and Information System (TSDIS) well ahead of launch. His 21-year Air Force career included duties as a USAF weather forecaster in Greenland. Dr. Dittberner also was a meteorologist and climatologist processing satellite data from early Block-2 DMSP satellites for forecasters in the former Air Force Global Weather Central. In 1969, he was coordinator for real-time satellite data in the tropics during the 1969 Barbados Oceanographic and Meteorological Experiment (BOMEX). Dr. Dittberner earned his Ph.D. in Climatology and his M.S. degree in Meteorology and Space Science and Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, and holds a B.S.E.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota.
