Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere

Event Introduction


The Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) is hosting this year’s NOAA NESDIS Cooperative Research Program (CoRP) Science Symposium virtually from 1-2 November 2021.

The CoRP Science Symposium is an opportunity for NESDIS to lay out strategic plans, research priorities, and explore new research.

A particular emphasis of this Symposium is to promote and nurture stronger collaborations between Cooperative Science Centers/Minority Serving Institutions (CSC/MSI) faculty and CI Staff through a broad exchange of research ideas and interactive opportunities that lead to sustained and meaningful interactions!

Invitation to the 2021 CoRP Symposium


You and your colleagues are cordially invited to the 2021 CoRP Science Symposium.  This year’s symposium will be held 1-2 November 2021 virtually by the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) of Colorado State University located in Fort Collins, CO.

The CoRP Science Symposium brings together members from the NOAA and academic community to discuss the latest developments in satellite remote sensing research and applications. The Symposium targets multidisciplinary research with a focus on early-career scientists and is part of a larger strategy to promote federal and academic partnerships/collaborations.  This year’s event will focus on building stronger connections between NOAA’s Cooperative Institutes (CIs) and Cooperative Science Center (CSC) faculty and students to promote a more diverse NOAA workforce in the future, with an emphasis on CI-affiliated students, postdocs, and junior scientists as conduits for collaboration.

The Symposium is hosted annually by one of the NOAA CIs and CSCs most closely associated with NESDIS, i.e., CIRA, CI for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS), CI for Satellite Earth System Studies (CISESS) and Center For Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing Technologies (CESSRST).

2021 CoRP Science Symposium Update

Given that the cases of COVID-19 Delta are still rising across the US, as are the associated restrictions imposed on travel, the Organizing Committee has decided to convene the 2021 CoRP Science Symposium entirely virtually this year.  This is less than ideal, but we believe the majority of the symposium’s core objectives — to enhance connections between NOAA, its Cooperative Institutes (CIs), and its Cooperative Science Centers (CSCs) faculty and students to promote a more diverse and engaged NOAA workforce in the future —  can still be accomplished in this virtual environment.

Note: If you plan to participate in the symposium and have not already done so, please take a moment to register (free) at https://www.cira.colostate.edu/conferences/corp_21/.

Also, please consider submitting an abstract for either a poster or oral presentation at the symposium–your active participation is key to a successful Symposium!

Engineering #310 and Morgan Library #425 are the 2 best places to park for access into the LSC.

The Longs Peak Room is found on the third floor of the Lory Student Center.
From any staircase head to the top floor and locate room number 302. The room is located in the far south-east corridor.

Parking on campus requires a permit. You can purchase hourly or daily parking. https://pts.colostate.edu/visitors/parking/

Hourly parking costs $2/hour and can be purchased in the parking lot using the hourly pay machines. Have your license plate number ready. You can also access these pay stations through the Park Mobile application on your mobile phone.

Daily parking permits can be purchased online or at the Parking and Transportation Services located in the Lake Street Garage for $13/day.

There are a number of parking lots near the Lory Student Center, if you are unable to find parking in any of these lots Colorado State University offers the Around the Horn shuttle that will transport you from one lot to another for free.
