Regional And Mesoscale Meteorology Team Daily Satellite Discussion Thursday May 21, 1998 |

Today's images focus on an intense thunderstorm over south-central Nebraska. This storm
had a history of producing severe weather. Radar indicated a possible tornado in Odessa, NE
at 10:30 local time which resulted in the issuance of a tornado warning.

| The three images are from GOES-8, 9, and 10 at 1415 UTC May 21, 1998. All images display the classic enhanced-V signature. It is instructive to analyze this signature from the three different viewing angles supplied by the satellites. Note in particular that the warm wake of the enhanced V appears cooler in the GOES-9 image (Figure 1 above). The enhanced V is most apparent in the GOES-10 image (Figure 2 above) since the GOES-10 viewing angle is the least of the three satellites in this case.
