Today's images are a preview of products currently under development for future use at AWIPS sites. The first two figures are averaged visible composites at 1745 UTC. The first is from the month of September 1997, the second from October 1997. By comparing these two composites, changes in pattern can be seen. One example is the indication of cloudiness over the southern Florida and the Bahamas during September, which is not there for October. This pattern is also seen in the average radiances for channel 10.7 in figure 3 (September) and figure 4 (October) for the same year and time. Since other climatologies show that much of Florida's precipitation and convective activity occur in the summer and early fall months, a reduction of cloudiness as the seasons transition into winter is reasonable. Of course, this example is for only these two months in 1997.

As this climatology continues and the data from multiple years are added, a better understanding of these transitional periods can be gained.
