. . . . Infrared satellite imagery finds both mid-lake bands as well as shorter, cloud-streets forming along the northwestern coastal waters of Lake Superior by 0430 UTC. These cloud lines all grew steadily with time. At approximately 1000 UTC the eastern end of the longest mid-lake band reached Sault Ste. Marie. At 1034 UTC, Y62 reported ceilings decreasing and snowfall beginning to increase. Ceilings, visibility, and obstructions became worse with time. The 1200 UTC observation at Y62 reported W6X3/8 SW, and similar conditions continued throughout most of the day. Hourly reports from 1200 UTC through 1900 UTC also included SNOINCR as part of the remarks. Moderate to extremely heavy snow continued throughout the entire day and into the night, resulting in a total of 32" of new snow by the morning of December 11th.
