This seminar will provide an introduction of the CHMI Satellite Department — a brief history, present technology and operational activities. Observations of convective storms in CHMI will be discussed; topics include 3.7 micron cloud top reflectivity, above-anvil plumes, enhanced-V and cold-ring-shaped storms, and lower-stratospheric moisture above storms (brightness temperature WV - IR window difference method). Finally, we will present some recent visualization techniques - enhanced-IR imagery ("standard" EUMETSAT color palette), RGB composite images, and "sandwich" products.
