The talk will give a summary of the current capabilities and status of radiance assimilations for global (NOGAPS) and mesoscale (COAMPS) modeling systems at NRL-Monterey and our partner operational center FNMOC.  This will lead to a discussion of expected impact of the next generation NPOESS Sensors on these NWP systems.  A presentation of monitoring and diagnostic tools used for operational radiance assimilation, such as the observation sensitivities derived from the adjoints of the forecast model and assimilation system.  Lastly, a short to medium range vision for the future of radiance assimilation will be shown for both the global and mesoscale systems, and where our current efforts are being directed.
