CIRA staff at ESRL/GSD
have been developing products for display on Google Earth using Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards.  In this presentation, we will describe some of our recent work.

Jeff Smith will give an overview and quick tour of Google Earth. He will then discuss the use of KML, contrast Google Earth with Microsoft Virtual Earth, and discuss the differences between Google Earth and Google Maps.  He will then introduce the Data Locator project that he has been working on, including the use of Unidata's THREDDS catalog, ncWMS, and Google Earth.

Next, Paul Hamer will provide a general discussion of GSD real-time data feeds, focusing on satellite products used for Google Earth display.

Finally, Chris MacDermaid will discuss OGC standards and then describe GSD's work with MIT's Lincoln Labs and the National Center for Atmospheric Research on OGC standards for the Federal Aviation Administration's NextGen Network Enabled Weather (NNEW) project.

We’ll follow the presentation with an extended discussion with interested CIRA staff in Ft Collins on potential collaborations involving Google Earth displays.
