- provides an overview of the grassroots Weather and Society * Integrated Studies (WAS*IS) movement to change the weather enterprise by comprehensively & sustainably integrating social science into meteorological research and practice
- summarizes WAS * IS progress & provides examples of how social science is benefiting meteorological research & practice, &
- introduces a new initiative set to begin at the University of Oklahoma funded by OU & by NOAA¿s Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies Weaving Social Science into the National Weather Center
Eve expects lively discussion and hopes some CIRA social science/meteorology collaborative project ideas to emerge.
Dr. Eve Gruntfest Career Profile
Eve has been working in the field of natural hazard mitigation for more than 30 years. She has published widely and is an internationally recognized expert in the specialty areas of warning system development and flash flooding. She received all her degrees in geography. Her BA degree is from Clark University and her Master¿s and Ph.D. were completed at University of Colorado Boulder.
In 2008 Eve is launching a new three-year initiative to Weave Social Science into the National Weather Center in Norman, Oklahoma. This new project will involve a Post-doctoral scientist and two Ph.D. students engaged in interdisciplinary weather and society research and practice.
