Application of "A-Train" Satellite Observations to Support Decision Support Systems for Operational Aviation Weather Products
CSU Project #: 5-31907Sponsor: National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
Primary Investigator: Dr. Steve Miller
Start Date: October 1st, 2009
End Date: June 28th, 2013
Objectives:
- Assist NCAR in processes/procedures for obtaining CloudSat datasets from the CloudSat Data Processing Center (DPC) and Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data from the Aqua satellite; make use of the combined CPR/CALIOP geometric profile Level-2 product; provide data visualization to assist in the analysis and evaluation of WRF model output.
- Consult with NCAR on methods for integrating satellite data into existing or custom DTC model evaluation tools (MET).
- Consult with NCAR on the appropriate application of MET tools for evaluating model forecasts.
- Assist NCAR in the assessment and interpretation of model forecast performance in the context of satellite observation MET tools, making considerations for both the inherent strengths and limitations of the various observing systems.
