Biography

Isidora Jankov received her BSc in Meteorology from University of Belgrade, Serbia (1997), and MS (2002) and PhD (2005) in Atmospheric Science from Iowa University. Her areas of interests have been primarily directed toward the evaluation and improvement of rainfall forecasts. The focus of her research has been on both rainfall associated with warm season Mesoscale Convective Systems (MCS) and cold season orographycally forced rainfall and the rainfall associated with atmospheric rivers. To improve rainfall forecasts, she has used different mesoscale models for numerical weather prediction with different physical parameterizations and a variety of statistical methods to measure forecast accuracy. To account for uncertainties naturally resulting from deficiencies of forecast models and imperfections of initial and boundary conditions she has utilized the ensemble approach. One of the recent focuses of Dr. Jankov’s research has been on the calibration of mixed-physics mixed-model ensembles for rainfall forecasting. Current work includes further developments and testing of Local Analysis and Prediction System (LAPS) for hurricane initialization, as well as developing a global scale version of the analysis (GLAPS). Dr. Jankov first joined CIRA in 2005 as a Post. Doc and in 2006 her position changed to a research scientist.
