Biography
Jennifer Valdez received her Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix, Colorado Campus (2003). Her areas of interest include Web technology and Outreach. Since joining CIRA in 2007, she has worked with others to create and manage dynamic and static web sites in order to find the best ways to communicate NOAA’s research to other Scientists and to the public. This requires staying current on new Web technologies and trends as well as being aware of how many different types of users find and utilize NOAA’s scientific research. Additionally, Web technology can be used within the scientific community to collaborate and archive research as well as tracking documentation and administration of research projects. Recent Work
NOAA’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems is quickly becoming a project with great interest. Before it became a funded project, Jennifer created the web site to educate the public and others in NOAA about the potential of using unmanned aircraft for a variety of scientific research. The site has grown along with the project and can be found at the following URL: uas.noaa.gov. One of NOAA’s Research and Development High Performance Computers is housed in Boulder, Colorado at the Earth Systems Research Laboratory. Jennifer worked on the procurement website for this multi-million dollar purchase by creating an interactive site for both vendors and internal users to communicate the requirements of the acquisition. Since the procurement, a site has been set up to track the information related to the system as well as application forms and reports for users of the system. This site can be viewed at: rdhpcs.noaa.gov/boulder. |
