Biography

Amenda Stanley received her BA in Mathematics and Computer Science from Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA (1981). Her areas of expertise include meteorological data acquisition and processing. From 1983 to present she has worked as a collaborator with NOAA organizations including PROFS, FSL, and ESRL/GSD. In 1997 she joined CIRA in this collaboration effort. During her years of collaboration with NOAA she developed data acquisition systems for a wide variety of data sets, including observations and models. She has also developed numerous data decoders with primary focus on point data sets such as aircraft, raob, sao, profiler, and mesonet data. The outputs from these data systems are used for development of improved forecasting models and forecasting visualization tools. The data acquisition and decoding systems are run in a quasi-operational environment where reliability and redundancy is very important.

Recent Work

In recent years significant effort has been toward increasing the amount of surface mesonet data available in the Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System (MADIS). During the past 2 years the number of mesonet networks included in MADIS has gone from 87 to 107. The number of reports per hour is now averaging 50,000.
