Biography

Patrick Hildreth received his BSc in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Georgia (1990). His interests include software development with Java, Ruby, Ruby on Rails and C. His work with the Data Systems Group at ESRL/GSD/ITS includes setting up and administering an LDM feed of NOAAPORT data to the Central Weather Bureau of Tawain. Additionally he developed an LDAP based authentication system for controlling user accounts and data access of MADIS public and non-public data for both ftp and httpd. This effort included development of a custom PAM module to enforce access by IP address on a per-account basis. More recently he developed a web based database of documentation for the GSD Operators. This was based developed using the ruby on rails framework and was recognized by GSD with a 2007 Web Award for Best Product / Internal Use. Current efforts are focused on re-applying this knowledge to develop a web based METAR station metadata database.

Above: The administrative interface of the web based database developed for the GSD Operators. Troubleshooting documents for the systems the operators monitor are stored in it. Here you can see some of the available features including an interactive (Ajax) search, archives, editing and creation functions as well as date/time information showing when each document was last modified. The documents have names ending in .html for historical reasons.
