Michael Hiatt received his BS in Electrical Engineering and Minor in Mathematics from Colorado State University in 1987. He has been part of the CIRA technical team since graduation starting as an entry level engineer. Today, he is CIRA’s research systems manager. His areas of interest include satellite earthstation technology, digital circuit design, large data set system design, processing, and archive, and .NET programming. Special accomplishments include first Xilinx FPGA frame synchronizer, DVD/BD archival system for large data sets, and first light from several NOAA GOES satellites. Michael also introduced the concept of mainstream technology for science applications at CIRA. Today, not only does CIRA benefit from this topology, the Cloudsat DPC leveraged this concept into an award winning program. Michael has been recognized with CIRA's Researcher of the Year, NASA/JPL special recognition, and Distinguished Administrative Professional awards.
