VIIRS Day/Night Band image of deep convection at night over Colombia and Venezuela illuminated by moonlight. The red arrow points to a lightning strike captured by the Day/Night Band from a thunderstorm that formed near the mouth of the Catatumbo River, making the lightning bolt an example of "Catatumbo Lightning". This image was taken on 10 May 2012. This and more examples of interesting VIIRS imagery may be found on the JPSS VIIRS Imagery team blog: http://rammb.cira.colostate.edu/projects/npp/blog/
