NASA P-3 Flying over CIRA as part of FRAPPE Experiment
Tuesday, July 22, 2014
Along with several other aircraft involved with the FRAPPE mission (online at: https://www2.acd.ucar.edu/frappe) the NASA Langley P-3 is making regular overflights of the Front Range, collecting aerosol and pollution data for the next month. This includes regular overflights of Christman Field, adjacent to the CIRA Foothills Campus location. The flight profile for the P-3 comes in from the south, buzzes the airfield at low altitude, and then continues into a corkscrew climb to vertically sample the atmosphere, before heading off to the southeast towards Greeley.
Real-time flight updates on the status of the aircraft used for the experiment can be found online at: http://airbornescience.nasa.gov/tracker/. Photos from a recent overpass of the CIRA Foothills Campus location, taken around 10:45am MDT on 22 July 2014, are online at the CIRA Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/CIRACSU.
