FBPS -- Fire Behavior Prediction System

DESCRIPTION

The Canadian Forest Fire Behavior Prediction (FBP) System provides quantitative estimates of fire spread rate, fuel consumption, fire intensity, and fire description. With the aid of an elliptical fire growth model, it gives estimates of fire area, perimeter, perimeter growth rate, and flank and back fire behavior. The Florida Fire Management Information System (FFMIS) Web site describes the structure of the Canadian Forest Fire Behavior Prediction (FBP) System.

SURVEY COMMENTS

Fourteen survey respondents reported using FBPS.  All of these FBPS users consider FBPS to be very important to do their jobs, and almost all considered it to be very good at doing what they needed it to do. However, slightly over half of these respondents believed there was a need to change or develop a better tool.
