![]() Today's image focuses on severe thunderstorms in California. Strong convective rainfall is not unusual for CA during January. The frames presented here comprise a loop of visible images with 1 km resolution. The loop spans 1900 UTC to 2130 UTC on January 29. The storm identified on the first frame of the loop became severe (hail and heavy rain) and warnings were issued for it. The following storm characteristics become visible when the imagery is looped: a) gravity waves atop the anvil, b) advection of the toward the west (due to easterly storm relative flow), and c) formation of an outflow boundary. visible loop |
