ETA model initial analyses from 1200 UTC on 28 July 1997. Analyses are centered over Colorado (lightly shaded in figure). LEFT: Sea level pressure analysis with frontal position traced from the National Center for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) difax chart. RIGHT: 500 mb heights and vertical motion.
The data show eastern Colorado in a low-level upslope flow pattern following the passage of cold front. The state is also directly beneath an upper level ridge. Both conditions are considered favorable for floods.
