Weather Summary
The low from yesterday moved well off to the east today, taking the clouds with it. Flow from the N - NNE triggered some lake effect clouds over southern Lake Huron, but there wasn't enough moisture to produce snow. The rest of southern Ontario was clear.
Below is a cloud height product from NRL using MODIS data which nicely distinguishes the low clouds from the snow.

Flight Summary
C3VP made the decision to not fly the overnight CARE overpass, but instead fly the afternoon London, ON overpass. London is in a prime location for pollution as it is surrounded by many of the Great Lake's most significant polluting cities. This was an ideal CALIPSO/lidar validation flight, but not an ideal scenario for CLEX. CLEX did not participate.
Below is the 1845 UTC GOES visible image and CloudSat swath during the aircraft operations courtesy of NRL.
Satellite Images
Images are taken every four hours beginning at 0045 UTC.
GOES-12 Visible (during daylight hours) and Near IR (night) albedo from CIRA.
GOES-12 IR (10.7 µm) brightness temperature from CIRA. The color scale begins at 0 °C with an increment of -10 °C between color changes.
GOES-12 experimental cloud phase from CIRA. Blue represents ice particles, red is liquid droplets above freezing and yellow represents supercooled liquid droplets. Gray areas are clear (no cloud) based on an IR cloud mask.
Surface Observations
Surface METARs every 4 hours beginning at 0045 UTC courtesy RAP @ UCAR
Model Analyses
12 UTC RUC analysis of 250 mb winds
21 UTC surface analysis from NCEP
Radiosonde Soundings
12 UTC Buffalo, NY
